How To Change Your WordPress Default Username

When you create a WordPress blog your username is automatically set to Admin by default, have you ever wondered if it was possible to change this at a later date to any username you wish?

Well it is and it is very easy to do.

You can do it with a plugin but I don’t like relying on plugins to do work that can be done manually as the more plugins you have clogging up your blog the slower it will run and will eventually start spitting errors at you as it struggles to cope.

1. Go to your host control panel and navigate to PHPMyAdmin and then click on your blog database (should be a list on the left).

2. Find the table ‘XX_users’ and click the Browse button, it should be the first button next to it. You should now see a list of users who have registered for your blog.

3. Find your admin user and click on the pencil image button.

4. Look for the field that says ‘user_login’ this is where you will put your new username.

Click save and that should be it. Try it out.

Don’t forget to back up your database BEFORE you do any alterations to it.
