How To Automatically Update Your Copyright Year

I came across a lovely little modification the other day that will automatically update your copyright year at the footer of your blog. This will save you a hell of a lot of time if you own multiple blogs.

And it only takes about a minute for every blog that you run.

1. Go to the footer file of your theme and find where your copyright notice is located.

I have this as mine:

Copyright © 2007 – 2011 I Need Discipline. All rights reserved.

2. Where it says ‘2011’ (or whatever year you currently have displayed) replace it with the following code:

[box style=”0″]<?php echo date(Y); ?>[/box]

3. That is it. Now you should see that the code displays 2011 in your copyright notice. This will update itself automatically every year.

I hope it helps. 🙂

  • That’s awesome, i also wish their was something like that for the ‘about me’ page on wordpress so that it would auto update your age, but no one’s done that one yet 🙂

  • Well funny is that a lot of people are using a plain text one and I see a lot of them forgetting to update their copyright year.

    • Exactly! Once you’ve put this code in you don’t have to worry about updating the copyright year again, until you change your theme of course. 🙂
