How Did I Create The Subscribe & Follow Me Section?

Since I gave the design of this blog a clean up I have received some very nice comments about how it looks now. I’ve also received some horrible comments but the only negative feedback I focus on are ones that offer something, not ones that call me names or just say β€œyour blog is crap”.

One thing that a lot of readers have been asking about is how I created the Subscribe & Follow Me section in my sidebar.

I must admit right now that I did not come up with that idea, I had seen it on several blogs and liked the way that it looked. I’m not sure how they did it on their blogs but I did it on mine the old fashioned way.

1. I opened up a TEXT widget on the Widgets page.

2. I wrote up the following HTML:

That is it.

I am working on maybe producing a plugin that will do this but I’m new to plugins so that might take some time. πŸ™‚

  • I agree, it does look very nice and organized. I might use it on my blog. Thanks for sharing the code!

  • Very nicely done, and it looks great as well. That’s one benefit with having extra space on one side.

  • It looks like a good choice for someone. I have another choice as you can see in my blog. It is also simple, just copy source and paste.

  • It looks very nice indeed and the code is so simple, I think that anyone who wants to implement it just needs to copy and paste what you have provided. I too am not tech savvy and this one I can do without any problems. Obviously, if you can create a plugin all the better. Aside form being easier, it gives you a boost in credibility and along the way, get credits for it, if it goes viral when many WP users decide to install it πŸ˜‰

  • was looking for this code. this kind of subscribe me box looks decent and professional.

    • Hope you like it Himanshu (what a great name by the way. πŸ™‚ ). I’m hoping to produce a plugin to do this, but with more options, at some point. πŸ™‚

  • I have only recently gotten into some HTML. I have gotten myself two programs for the subscribing on my blog. One is Pop up domination which I like very much. It’s clean and very professional and it’s settings are also user friendly.

Then I got myself MaxBlogPress’ subscriber Magnet. I liked the product at first and many raved about it. It’s nice, but if you are part of resell rights weekly you can probably get a similar product for free (or the membership fee). And besides that, the java script code of the footer banner interferes with my featured slider (a very important features for my blog) and got no support, from them regarding it (even after six months). They did say something about upgrading and downloading it, but still didn’t work.

The worst of MBp expereince was that after buying 2 very expensive product from them they offered their entire package for less than the price of one product two months after I bought them. Needless to say I was miffed. So, no, don’t buy that.

Po pup domination is highly recommended. I’m rambling… I hope that is valuable. I’d like to see your plugin too! Let me know…

    • I haven’t turned Pop-Up Domination on yet. I’ve been messing about with the settings and you are bang on, they are incredibly easy to nagivate.

I didn’t buy it. I had someone buy it for me as a Christmas present. Something that I think is much better than socks and aftershave. πŸ˜€

Udegbunam Chukwudi Emmanuel recently informed me about a free plugin that he uses instead of Pop-Up Domination. It is called FasterIM Opt-In. πŸ™‚
