Duplicate Content – Good or Bad for Your Website

Of course it is! I’m sure this is what you’d be thinking. Well … there are two sides of a coin and an issue is judged good or bad depending on its implications. For website owners starved of time, it makes sense to hire an affordable search engine optimization service provider, to write a good article and then have them published through several article directory sites. This makes sense, because if the article is good, and you have get traffic via your link, plus the targeted website should rise in search rankings from the links.

But if you are a reader, looking for some advice on home improvement, I’m sure you wouldn’t appreciate a string of articles that are exact copies of each other. Duplicate content not only irks the viewer, but Google as well. As a search engine, Google’s primary aim is to give users, a wide and varied list of options and to allow them to choose information from multiple sources. And with its latest panda update, it has indeed tried to put a lid on content farms that promote duplicate content.

Before we go further into the debate, let’s consider the different aspects of duplicate content; one that’s spread across domains, and another that’s within your domain. While there’s nothing wrong in syndicating a single content across sites, this has to be done with care. When you take a single content and have this syndicated through different versions, you might end up promoting a version that you’d rather not promote. And if Matt Cutts were to be believed, there isn’t anything wrong with syndicating an article as long you don’t overdo it and make sure to include a link to the original content.

Thus, moderation is the key. As long as the content is not duplicated repeatedly and deliberately, so as to appear in search engine rankings and as long as it does not annoy searchers, it is alright to duplicate content.

If you are a website owner looking to promote a webpage through article syndication, make sure you choose a company that offers professional SEO services. A majority of them offer to write well researched quality content.

Although, syndicating all your articles across different sites without a link to the original content isn’t generally advisable, if you are going to do it, make sure you do it properly. As earlier said there are several companies that offer affordable SEO and can help you to spin your content and then get it syndicated.

In conclusion, if it is possible to write unique content for everything you do,  that is the best option, but if you are going to duplicate content,   do it the correct way.
