5 Ways To Make Use Of Old Content

I wrote this article while sitting on a coach that had a screaming baby and some rather smelly toilets. I sure know how to travel in style. 😛

How many times have you published an article that you are proud of and then had a bit of a sobering realisation that after maybe a week nobody will care about that article because it will no longer be on the first page of your blog?

We’ve all been there, some of us more often than we’d like to admit.

But those good articles do not have to be buried and forgotten about, you can do what I, and many others like me, do and rewrite & publish your old articles into news fresh content. Not to be posted back onto your blog though, this is even better than that.

There are a number of other things to do with them that will not only expose your good articles to more people but will also drive traffic to your blog.

1. Submit To Article Directories

There are a hell of a lot of article directories to submit articles to, just check Google for a small list. Ezinearticles is probably the biggest one. A couple of times a week I will submit some of my old posts to these directories. Haven’t received major traffic yet but the results have been worth it.

2. Publish Them In Your Newsletter

Do you run a mailing list? I am probably right in guessing that if you do then you will have subscribers who have not seen these articles. Once a week/month/whenever send out a newsletter with a list of a selection of old articles you think they will enjoy.

3. Turn Them Into Video Articles

This is something that I am looking at doing next year, and have seen other people do with tremendous results. We all love watching videos on sites like Youtube so why not turn some of your good articles into videos and post them to various video sites.

4. Rewrite them & Offer Them As Guest Posts

Some people might not agree with this one but I think it is a good idea. Rewrite your articles a bit and then contact some blogs in your niche with a view to using these articles as guest posts.

5. Put Some Of Them Into An Ebook And Give It Away

Notice how I said ‘give it away’? Maybe it is just me but I can not see many people paying for an ebook with content that is available for free on a blog. But done in the right way and it can bring in a huge amount of traffic and even mailing list subscribers.

What do you do with your old content?

  • Thanks for that, but i have a little remark to add.
Article directories are way off the SEO-ing effort charts…
There is no need to spend time on writing articles, or even copy old posts, to ezinearticles or others, but you can allways outsource the task.
Articles directories are good only if you make it a weekly annoying and time consuming task.
    Youtube presentation are much better…

  • My SEO used to spin content and submit to article websites. It was never effective in the selling airline miles small industry.
