4 Mistakes To Avoid When Starting Your Blog

If you have stumbled across this blog and are thinking (or even at the early stages) about starting up your first blog then I am pleased you have come here and found this post because it is designed for people like yourself.

There are a few minefields that you should be looking out for when you are starting your blog because it is very important to make a good impression straight out of the gate. A bad impression can take you a fair bit of time to recover from.

Here are four to help get you running. šŸ™‚

1. If You Build It They Will Come In Their Droves

The amount of people who start up their blog, sit back and expect the traffic to come flying in is astounding. It will not make the slightest bit of difference, at the beginning, how great your content is and how snazzy your design is, if nobody knows about your blog they will not come.

Promote! Promote! Promote! is the key. You can check out another article that I wrote last year about ways to promote your blog for free.

2. Not Doing Proper Research On Your Niche

Picking a niche to write about on your blog can be challenging so it is always best to take a little bit of time to do as much research as possible into the ones that take your fancy. If you spend a week at least researching a niche then you will be more prepared when starting your blog.

3. Not Using A Self-Hosted Blog

I cannot stress how important it is to have your own self hosted WordPress blog. It might coast money to take up hosting (and a domain name) but it is so worth it than hosting with Blogger or WordPress.com.

For a start a self-hosted WordPress blog is more customisable than the ones hosted at Blogger.com and WordPress.com, so you will be able to do much more with the layout, design and plugins. Plus people seem to trust self-hosted blogs more.

4. Launching With No Useful Content

Before you launch your blog make sure you have a nice collection of articles already posted online that are ready to go. I know that sounds simple but so many people launch their blogs with no content that is needed to be stressed again.

Iā€™d say write five quality posts before you send your blog live. šŸ™‚

I hope you find these useful, if you think of any others that I have not mentioned then feel free to drop us a comment and let us know. šŸ™‚
